NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has officially released the notification for the Advocates-on-Record (AOR) Examination 2025. The AOR exam will be conducted on June 16, 17, 20, and 21, 2025, in New Delhi. This exam is a key requirement for advocates who wish to practice as Advocates-on-Record before the Supreme Court.

Application Dates and Process
As per the notification issued by the Office of the Registrar and Secretary, Board of Examiners, the application window will be open from April 15 to April 30, 2025.
Eligible candidates—those who have completed one year of mandatory training under an Advocate-on-Record by April 30, 2025—can submit their application forms in two ways:
- In person at: Room No. 307, B-Block, Administrative Building Complex
- Or via email (but hard copies must be sent later as well).
“The last date to submit the hard copy of the application form is April 30, 2025, by 5:00 PM.”
The exam will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode only.
Special Relaxation for Candidates
A major highlight of this year’s notification is a one-time exception for candidates who appeared in the December 2021 AOR Exam. According to the notice:
“The AOR Examination held in December 2021 will not be counted among the five permissible attempts.”
This means candidates who had used all five attempts—excluding December 2021—can apply for one final chance.

Exam Fee and Documents Required
The exam fee is Rs.2750, which must be paid to UCO Bank, Supreme Court Compound.
Candidates are also required to:
- Affix a passport-size photograph
- Attach a self-attested copy of their Enrolment Certificate
Updated Syllabus for AOR Exam 2025
The Supreme Court has clarified the syllabus for this year’s exam. The following are the key updates:
- Paper-II (Drafting): “Includes a wide range of petitions under the Constitution and relevant statutes (e.g., SLPs, transfer petitions, review petitions, contempt, bail).”
- Paper-III (Advocacy and Professional Ethics): “Emphasizes ethical conduct, duties under the Advocates Act, professional standards, and comparative legal ethics.”
- Paper-IV (Leading Cases): “Will include a revised list of 86 landmark judgments, with headnotes provided in the examination hall (to be returned post-exam).”
Note for 2024 AOR Candidates
The result of the 2024 AOR Exam was declared on January 23, 2025. Candidates falling under Regulation 11(i) or 11(ii) have two options:
- Reappear in the specific paper(s) they failed
- OR attempt the entire examination afresh
“This option must be declared at the time of application.”
Important Caution to Candidates
Candidates should take note of the following strict rules:
“Absence in any paper after roll number issuance will be treated as insufficient preparation, disqualifying the candidate from future attempts unless explicitly allowed by the Board of Examiners.”
Also,
“Candidates who fail all papers or exceed five attempts (except for the December 2021 exemption) are not eligible to reappear.”
