The Supreme Court has issued notice regarding the NEET-MDS internship cut-off, with the next hearing scheduled for February 21. This notification comes as a response to concerns raised about the eligibility criteria for the NEET-MDS exam, particularly regarding internship completion dates. The upcoming hearing will likely address these issues and determine the course of action moving forward.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has taken notice of a plea seeking clarity on internship cut-off dates for the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test—Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS). On February 16th, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud addressed the matter, indicating that the issue will be discussed further on Wednesday, February 21.
The plea was raised by a group of NEET-MDS aspirants who argue that the current internship cut-off date, set at March 31, 2024, disqualifies many candidates from appearing for the exams as their internships will not conclude by the stipulated deadline.
Approximately 8,000 candidates are reportedly ineligible for the exam due to these internship cut-off dates. The petitioner also mentioned that the initiation of the internship was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the commencement dates were not consistent across all medical colleges in India. Consequently, candidates find themselves unable to meet the eligibility criteria for the MDS exam.
