Supreme Court Declines Bail Cancellation Plea Against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy | Directs Case to High Court

Hyderabad: Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishna Raju, who had earlier approached the Supreme Court over delays in the assets case against YSRC chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, sought the cancellation of Jagan’s bail. However, the Supreme Court declined to entertain the plea, advising Raju to pursue the matter in the High Court instead.

The Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice B.V. Naga Ratna, noted that approaching the apex court for bail cancellation in this instance was unnecessary. The bench stated that the High Court was the appropriate forum for such matters.

Following the Supreme Court’s observation, Raghurama Krishna Raju’s advocate announced the decision to withdraw the case from the Supreme Court and take it up with the High Court. The Supreme Court granted permission for this withdrawal and approved the appeal to transfer the matter to the High Court for further proceedings.

The assets case against Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has been a long-standing issue, with allegations of corruption and financial irregularities during his tenure as a public servant. The case has been under investigation for several years, and Raghurama Krishna Raju has been vocal about the alleged delays in its progress.

In his plea, Raju highlighted concerns regarding the slow pace of the case and raised questions about the implications of allowing Jagan to remain out on bail while the investigation continues. He argued that Jagan’s bail could influence the proceedings and sought its cancellation.

With the Supreme Court’s guidance, the focus of the case now shifts to the High Court. Raghurama Krishna Raju is expected to file a fresh petition seeking bail cancellation for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the High Court.

The High Court will now examine the grounds for the bail cancellation plea, including any new evidence or developments in the case.

The decision to transfer the matter to the High Court underscores the judicial principle of following proper forums for specific legal remedies. It also highlights the ongoing legal battles surrounding high-profile politicians and the scrutiny of their financial dealings.
