NEW DELHI: On Tuesday(23rd July), the Supreme Court of India has permitted the Rajasthan government-constituted committee to continue its investigation into the Ekal Patta case. The division bench, comprising Justices Surya Kanat and Ujjwal Bhuyan, issued this order, marking a crucial step in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Rajasthan’s Additional Advocate General, Shiv Mangal Sharma, emphasized the importance of the committee’s role in the investigation.
He stated-
“The committee was tasked with presenting the true and accurate facts to the Supreme Court, which is essential for proper adjudication.”
This assertion highlights the committee’s pivotal function in ensuring that the court has all the necessary and factual information to make an informed decision.
On the other hand, Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar, representing former UDH secretary GS Sandhu, sought a stay on the committee’s proceedings. He argued that the committee’s functioning was illegal and warranted immediate cessation.

“The committee’s proceedings should be halted due to their unlawful nature.”
– he contended, seeking the court’s intervention to halt the committee’s activities.
Despite these arguments, the Supreme Court did not find merit in Sandhu’s plea challenging the committee’s operations. The court’s decision to allow the committee to continue signifies its preliminary stance on the matter, pending a final hearing scheduled for July 30.
This legal battle centers around the Ekal Patta case, a matter of significant importance and scrutiny. The Rajasthan government formed the committee to investigate and present facts regarding the case, which has been mired in controversy and legal challenges.
