Lawyers May Appear via Video Conferencing: Supreme Court Allows Virtual Hearings Amid AI Summit Traffic

The Supreme Court of India allowed lawyers to appear via video conferencing from February 16 to February 20 due to traffic disruptions near Bharat Mandapam during the AI Impact Summit. The move followed request from Supreme Court Bar Association, officially issued.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has approved the option for lawyers to appear via video conferencing from February 16 to February 20, due to potential traffic disruptions linked to the “AI Impact Summit” taking place at the nearby Bharat Mandapam.

Responding to a request from the Supreme Court Bar Association, the court released a circular on this matter.

The circular stated,

“In view of the representation received from Supreme Court Bar Association, it is hereby informed that on account of anticipated traffic congestion around the precincts of Supreme Court of India during the ‘AI Impact Summit’ scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi during the period from February 16, 2026, to February 20, 2026, advocates may, during the above period appear through video conferencing before the hon’ble court if they face difficulty in appearing before courts in person.

“To facilitate appearance through video conferencing, relevant video conferencing link shall be shared with the Advocates-on-Record,”

The apex court specified that using video conferencing is optional, and all benches will operate in hybrid mode during this time.

To ensure robust security during the India-AI Impact Summit, more than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed in the national capital from February 16 to 20. This five-day event will occur at Bharat Mandapam and is anticipated to attract thousands of delegates from over 30 countries.
