The Supreme Court dismissed SSC aspirant Vikas Patra’s plea, firmly stating, “You are ineligible.” The Court also questioned SSC over refund delays and lack of transparency in candidate lists.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the application of SSC aspirant Vikas Patra, declaring him ineligible to appear for the upcoming Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination. A bench consisting of Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Alok Aradhe made the decision and clearly told the candidate, “You are ineligible.”
During the hearing, the judges sought clarification on whether the process of refunding examination fees for ineligible candidates had started.
The bench also raised concerns over the transparency of the candidate list, stating that repeated issues in SSC cases continue to be worrying.
SSC’s lawyer informed the Court that the admit cards of ineligible candidates had already been cancelled, and an updated list of eligible candidates had been published and shared with the Supreme Court.
Justice Sanjay Kumar, in reference to an earlier case, had asked for confirmation that all “tainted ineligibles” were removed from the examination list.

Responding to this, the SSC lawyer confirmed that a total of 1,804 such candidates had been barred from the exam.
The Court has consistently maintained that it would not interfere with SSC’s policy decisions regarding recruitment.
It had previously dismissed a challenge to an SSC notification, emphasizing the body’s authority in managing its recruitment policies.
According to WBPay, the case was filed on September 9, 2025, and was fast-tracked due to the importance of the SSC exam scheduled on September 14.
The rejection of Vikas Patra’s application underscores the Supreme Court’s strict approach towards enforcing SSC eligibility rules and ensuring fair recruitment practices.
This ruling also sends a clear message to all candidates that strict compliance with eligibility criteria is mandatory, and attempts to bypass these rules will not be tolerated.
The Supreme Court continues to monitor SSC’s processes closely to prevent irregularities and maintain transparency in examinations.
