CJI Chandrachud remarked, “If you like, come and sit here, please come and sit here. Sit for the day. I assure you, you will run for your life!” This comment was made in response to the lawyer’s repeated requests for a favorable hearing date regarding the Shiv Sena’s petition against the Maharashtra Speaker’s refusal to disqualify the MLAs from the Eknath Shinde group.

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday (6th Aug), Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud addressed a situation involving the Shivsena defection case, where the lawyer representing the Shiv Sena (UBT) was persistently requesting a hearing date that suited him.

CJI Chandrachud expressed his frustration, urging the lawyer to experience firsthand the immense pressure faced by Supreme Court judges. He suggested that the lawyer spend a day with the court master to understand the demanding workload of the court.

CJI Chandrachud remarked,

“If you like, come and sit here, please come and sit here.

Despite the matter being listed for hearing, it was not addressed on that day, and the case has been rescheduled for next Thursday.

The court also instructed the lawyers to submit a complete compilation of documents in both the Shiv Sena case and the Sharad Pawar case concerning the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP.

Earlier, CJI Chandrachud had also warned lawyers in the West Bengal School Services Commission (WB SSC) case. The CJI had cautioned that further attempts by the lawyer to expedite the hearing could lead to their removal from the case.
