NEW DELHI: Today (9th July): Senior Advocate AM Singhvi urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud to consider the urgent listing of the issue concerning the control of Delhi Government services.

Highlighting the pressing nature of the matter, Singhvi stated,
“Your lordships know the ground realities, there are two judgments in our favour. A third judgment is required to iron out the creases. Please keep this in mind.”
Previously, the Supreme Court assured the Delhi government that it would contemplate listing its plea challenging the central government’s law, which establishes the lieutenant governor’s pre-eminence over the elected government in managing services in the national capital.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the AAP government, who emphasized that the entire administration had come to a halt and that the matter required immediate attention.

Singhvi argued,
“The whole administration has come to a standstill and the matter needed to be heard.”
The top court had earlier referred the Delhi government’s plea challenging the Centre’s May 19, 2023 ordinance to a five-judge Constitution bench. This ordinance had revoked the city’s control over its services, igniting a renewed power struggle between the city’s elected government and the central authorities.
