The Supreme Court of India granted nine additional months to conclude the Sheena Bora murder trial after assessing the current status. It made clear that no further extension will be permitted and directed completion of proceedings promptly thereafter.

The Supreme Court allowed an additional nine months to finish the trial in the Sheena Bora murder matter, while emphasizing that no further extensions will be permitted.

A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh issued the order after receiving a request from the Special Judge, CBI, City Civil and Sessions Court, Greater Bombay, for more time to wrap up the trial.

The bench said ,

“Considering the prayer made, the time to conclude the trial stands extended by nine months while making it clear that no further prayer seeking extension of time will be entertained,”

The top court also allowed Indrani Mukerjea Sheena Bora’s mother and the principal accused to file a fresh application seeking permission to travel abroad. Media executive Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband, is a co-accused in the case.

Sheena Bora (24) was allegedly strangled in a car in April 2012 by Indrani, her driver Shyamvar Rai (who later turned approver), and a man named Khanna. According to police, the body was burned and dumped in a forest in Raigad.

The murder only emerged in 2015 after Rai confessed following his arrest in an unrelated case. Indrani and Khanna were taken into custody in August 2015, and Peter was arrested three months later. All the accused have been granted bail and remain out on it.
