NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has written a formal letter to Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, urging him to consider their proposal of erecting statues of the country’s first president, Rajendra Prasad, and the first Chief Justice of India, Justice H J Kania, within the premises of the apex court. Rohit Pandey, the secretary of SCBA, confirmed this communication, emphasizing the importance of their request.
The letter, dated April 26, emphasizes the importance of paying homage to these two notable individuals who played crucial roles in shaping the country’s legal landscape. It proposes that erecting statues of Rajendra Prasad and Justice H J Kania would be a sincere tribute to their contributions. It suggests placing these statues near Gates C and D, where a small park is currently undergoing beautification efforts.
In the letter, SCBA secretary Rohit Pandey stated-
“These statues are intended to honor both distinguished figures and are suggested for placement on the sides of Gates C and D, where the small park enhancement is taking place.”
The SCBA executive committee is hopeful that the Chief Justice will consider their request and issue necessary instructions to the concerned department to explore the feasibility of installing the statues in the mentioned parks.
