New Delhi: On Monday (Oct 21): The Supreme Court reprimanded the Karnataka government for “harassing” students by conducting board examinations for various classes, and it has prohibited the state from declaring results for the board exams of classes 8, 9, and 10 until further notice.
A bench comprising Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma criticized the government’s actions, stating,
“Why are you harassing the students? You are the state. You should not behave like this. Don’t make it an ego issue. If you truly care about the welfare of students, please open good schools. Don’t throttle them.”

He also informed the court that examinations had been conducted in 24 other districts. The Supreme Court directed the state government to submit an affidavit detailing the examination process within four weeks.
This ruling came during a hearing for an appeal filed by the Organisation for Unaided Recognised Schools against a March 22 judgment by the Karnataka High Court, which had allowed the state government to proceed with the board exams for the 2023-24 academic year, setting aside a March 6 order from a single judge that had nullified the government’s decision to conduct these exams through the Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB).
