[BREAKING] Supreme Court Reconstitutes Gender Sensitisation Committee to Address Gender Equality and Harassment Issues

NEW DELHI: Today (17th Jan): The Supreme Court has restructured its Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, now led by Justice BV Nagarathna, a senior judge of the court, as its chairperson.

The 11-member panel includes Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Sujata Singh (OSD Registrar), and senior advocates Menaka Guruswamy, Liz Mathew, and Bansuri Swaraj.

Additionally, advocates Nina Gupta, Soumyajit Pani, and Sakshi Banga are part of the committee, along with Madhu Chauhan, representing the Supreme Court Bar Clerks’ Association, and Dr. Leni Chaudhuri, Executive Director of the University of Chicago Centre in India Pvt. Ltd, nominated by the Chief Justice of India.

Earlier, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud restructured the Supreme Court’s Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC). The committee will be led by Justice B.V. Nagarathna and is tasked with addressing issues of gender discrimination, harassment, complaints, and inequality.

This reconstitution follows the retirement of Justice Hima Kohli, who retired on September 1 upon reaching the age of 65.

The new committee members include: Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh; Dr. Sukhda Pritam, Additional Registrar (Officer in service at the Supreme Court); Dr. Menaka Guruswamy, Senior Advocate (Senior Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association); Advocates Nina Gupta, Soumyajit Pani, and Sakshi Banga (SCBA Representative); Anindita Pujari, Advocate-on-Record (SCBA Member); Madhu Chauhan, Representative of the Supreme Court Bar Clerks’ Association; Senior Advocates Bansuri Swaraj and Jaideep Gupta (Senior SCBA Member and CJI Nominee); and Dr. Leni Chaudhuri, Executive Director of the University of Chicago Centre in India Pvt. Ltd. (CJI Nominee).
