Today, On 29th August, The Supreme Court Criticized the Telangana Chief Minister for his comments regarding the bail granted to Kavitha in the excise policy scam case. The Court expressed its disapproval, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of judicial proceedings and refraining from making statements that could undermine public confidence in the legal process.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, On Thursday, expressed strong disapproval of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s comments regarding the bail granted to BRS leader K Kavitha in connection with the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

The Court particularly concerned about Reddy’s remarks suggesting a potential deal between the BJP and the BRS to secure Kavitha’s bail, warning that such statements could create doubts and apprehensions in the public’s mind.

The court expressed “complete faith” in the judicial system but voiced significant concern over the “nature of the statement” made by the Chief Minister.

Justice B.R. Gavai, leading a three-judge bench, expressed strong criticism over Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s recent remarks, stating,

“Have you read what he said in the newspaper? Just read what he has stated. What sort of statement is this by a responsible Chief Minister? This might rightly create apprehension in the minds of people. Is this the kind of statement that should be made by a Chief Minister, a constitutional functionary?”

The bench further questioned,

“Why should they drag the court into political rivalry? Do we pass orders in consultation with political parties? We are not concerned with politicians or if anybody criticizes our orders. We do our duty as per conscience and oath.”

Reddy’s remarks, made during an interaction with media on Tuesday, suggested doubts about MLC Kavitha receiving bail in five months, contrasting it with Manish Sisodia’s 15-month wait and Arvind Kejriwal’s ongoing situation.

In a statement, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy claimed,

“It is a fact that BRS worked for the victory of the BJP in the 2024 LS polls. There is also talk that Kavitha got bail because of a deal between BRS and BJP.”

Responding to these allegations, the Supreme Court emphasized the importance of mutual respect between institutions, noting that it is a fundamental duty to maintain an appropriate distance.

The bench remarked, which also included Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan,

“We always say we will not interfere in the legislature, and that same expectation applies to them as well. Do we pass orders on political considerations?”

The Court hearing a petition seeking to transfer the trial in the 2015 cash-for-vote scam case, in which Reddy is an accused, from Telangana to Bhopal.
