Today, On 20th August, The Supreme Court recently reprimanded an advocate for improperly submitting photos taken with a mobile phone in a case. Justice Surya Kant expressed his frustration, warning that he may soon issue a severe order against members of the Bar for such conduct.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court, On Tuesday, criticized lawyers for including ‘misleading’ mobile phone photographs in legal pleadings.
Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan cautioned that they might soon issue a strict order against such practices by members of the Bar.
The remark came after the Court reviewed certain photos attached to pleadings in a land encroachment case, which it found to be problematic.
Justice Kant remarked,
“Mobile se photo liya aur annexure mei laga diya (you took a photo from a mobile and simply attached in an annexure. One day I am going to pass an extremely harsh order against the members of the Bar. All misleading photos filed before this Court. This does not happen in High Courts,”
He suggested that advocates engaging in such practices could face severe consequences, including the revocation of their licenses.
He warned,
“We need to take action. If Bar members continue this, we may have to cancel their licenses,”
The Supreme Court reviewing an appeal against a ruling issued by the Madras High Court on January 12. This legal matter originated from a petition filed by an individual named C. Karthikeyan, who sought the removal of an alleged encroachment by the A/M Kannan Temple located in Chennai.

In its January 12 order, the Madras High Court resolved the issue by noting the assurance provided by the Chennai Corporation. The corporation committed to taking the necessary actions to remove the purported encroachment by the temple within a four-week timeframe.
Following this, the temple authorities challenged the High Court‘s decision by appealing to the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the temple’s appeal, thereby upholding the High Court’s directive.
This effectively reinforced the requirement for the Chennai Corporation to proceed with the removal of the encroachment as initially ordered.
