NEW DELHI: On 30th July: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended two advocates for appointment as judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The Collegium, consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai, proposed the names of
- Advocate Bibhu Datta Guru
- Advocate Amitendra Kishore Prasad (AK Prasad).

In their resolution, the Collegium stated,
“Taking into account all relevant factors, including the age and standing at the Bar, the Collegium finds the candidate suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court.”
On February 21, the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues, had recommended these two advocates for judgeship. The Chief Minister and Governor of Chhattisgarh had agreed with this recommendation.

The Supreme Court Collegium then conducted its own assessment of the candidates’ merit and suitability. One Supreme Court judge, who was the sole consultee for these appointments, recused himself from providing his views because he is related to one of the advocates.
