Today, On 30th August, The Supreme Court Collegium rejected Justice Shamim Ahmed’s request to reconsider his transfer, reaffirming its decision to move him to the Madras High Court. After reviewing Justice Ahmed’s representation, the Collegium concluded that there was no merit in his appeal. The decision highlights the Collegium’s stance on maintaining judicial transfers despite individual objections.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium, on Friday, reaffirmed its decision to transfer Allahabad High Court judge, Justice Shamim Ahmed, to the Madras High Court, despite his request for reconsideration.
The transfer reiterated in the interest of better administration of justice.
According to a resolution posted on the Supreme Court’s website, the Collegium, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and including Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, Surya Kant, and Hrishikesh Roy, initially proposed Justice Ahmed’s transfer on August 21, 2024.

The Collegium stated,
“In accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure, we consulted a Supreme Court judge familiar with the affairs of the Allahabad High Court, who provided insights on the proposed transfer. We also consulted the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. However, Justice Shamim Ahmed, in a representation dated August 22, 2024, requested reconsideration of his transfer to the Madras High Court.”
The Collegium stated that it reviewed Justice Ahmed’s request for reconsideration but found no merit in it.
The Collegium affirmed,
“The Collegium, therefore, resolves to reiterate its recommendation dated August 21, 2024, to transfer Mr. Justice Shamim Ahmed to the Madras High Court,”
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on December 12, 2019, and was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on March 26, 2021.
