“Sorry, Not Happening!”: Supreme Court Orders Chhattisgarh Government to Compensate Harassed Woman Sarpanch

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday (Nov 14th) sharply criticized the Chhattisgarh government and directed it to compensate a woman sarpanch who was reportedly harassed and coerced to resign from her post.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the case, Justice Surya Kant reprimanded the government representative, stating,

Some clerk has been made an officer, and you want the sarpanch to go before that babu! Sorry, not happening!”

This pointed remark highlighted the Court’s disapproval of the bureaucratic handling of the woman’s grievances.

The Supreme Court’s strong words underscore the need for protecting the rights of elected women officials and ensuring they are not unfairly pressured or harassed in their roles.
