Lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain stated that the Supreme Court has underscored the importance of ensuring peace and harmony in Sambhal. The remark came during a case hearing, where the Court emphasized safeguarding communal and social stability. The directive aims to prevent unrest and promote unity in the region.

New Delhi: Lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Sambhal dispute case, stated on Friday that the Supreme Court has directed the mosque committee to approach the High Court.

In a media briefing, Jain remarked,

“The Supreme Court has emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in Sambhal. It has ordered the mosque committee to challenge the trial court’s decision in the High Court.”

He further noted that the Supreme Court instructed the advocate commissioner to submit his report in a sealed cover, adding,

“The court has clarified that it is not expressing any opinion on the case’s merits. The mosque committee is to file their challenge in the Allahabad High Court, which should be listed within three working days. There is a limited stay on trial court proceedings in this matter.”

Regarding the Supreme Court’s request for the state government to ensure law and order, UP Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya stated,

“The government will adhere to the Supreme Court’s orders. The Samajwadi Party tends to violate these orders. I advise the goons and rioters of the Samajwadi Party to refrain from disturbing the peace; otherwise, their party will face dire consequences.”

Meanwhile, as the ASI team prepared to submit the survey report of the Jama Masjid to the district court, government lawyer Vishnu Kumar Sharma indicated,

“We plan to file our response in court today.”

On Friday, relative calm was observed in the city during Friday prayers, with police actively maintaining order.

Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh reported,

“Namaz has been offered peacefully throughout the district. The situation is stable, and we are engaging with citizens to build trust. Cooperation from the public is crucial for maintaining law and order.”

Tensions in Sambhal had escalated after a local court ordered a survey of the mosque on November 19, which sparked clashes with police and resulted in four fatalities. This survey initiated following a petition asserting that the mosque’s site was previously a Harihar temple.
