The Supreme Court has sought a response from the Maharashtra government on bail pleas filed by two accused in the Pune Porsche crash, issuing notice against the Bombay High Court order that refused them relief in December last year.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Maharashtra government to respond to petitions submitted by two defendants seeking bail in the Pune Porsche car accident case that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in May 2024.

A bench consisting of Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan issued a notice to the state government regarding their appeals against the Bombay High Court’s decision, which denied bail.

The high court had turned down the bail requests of eight defendants, including Sood and Mittal, on December 16 of the previous year.

Aditya Avinash Sood (52) and Ashish Satish Mittal (37) were arrested on August 19 of the previous year, as their blood samples were utilized in tests related to two minors who were present in the vehicle with the 17 year old primary suspect at the time of the crash.

The tragic incident took place on May 19, 2024, when a Porsche, allegedly being driven by a minor, rammed into a motorcycle, leading to the death of two individuals.

A case was registered against the juvenile driver under Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338, and 427 of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act, including charges of rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence.

The juvenile justice board (JJB) had previously granted bail to the minor suspect under lenient conditions, leading to widespread public outrage. The conditions included writing a 300 word essay on road safety.

In light of the controversy surrounding the juvenile’s bail, the Pune police approached the JJB to reconsider its ruling. Consequently, the board modified its decision and placed the juvenile in an observation home.

In June, the high court ordered the juvenile’s release.

While the juvenile was released from the observation home, a total of 10 defendants including his parents, Vishal Agarwal and Shivani Agarwal, two doctors namely Ajay Tawre and Shreehari Halnor, a staff member from Sassoon hospital namely Atul Ghatkamble , two intermediaries, and three others Aditya Avinash Sood, Ashish Mittal, and Arun Kumar Singh were incarcerated in relation to the blood sample tampering case.

The Bombay High Court declined to grant regular bail to Aditya Avinash Sood (52) and Ashish Satish Mittal (37), along with several other accused, in the Pune Porsche crash case involving alleged manipulation of blood samples.

On December 16, 2025, the Court rejected the bail pleas of eight individuals, observing that there appeared to be a strong prima facie conspiracy to tamper with crucial evidence, and releasing them at this stage could adversely affect the investigation and the pursuit of justice for the victims.
