The exam is currently scheduled for August 11.
The decision to list the case for hearing came after the petitioner’s counsel, advocate Anas Tanwir, mentioned the urgency of the matter before Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. Tanwir highlighted,
“This is NEET PG case and it is to be held on August 11.”
Responding to this, CJI Chandrachud directed the registry,
“Please list it tomorrow.”
The plea, filed by Vishal Soren, outlines the difficulties candidates are facing in reaching their exam centres, which have been allocated in cities inconvenient for many. According to the plea,
“Many similarly placed candidates have been allocated cities that are highly inconvenient for them to reach and further seeking details of the formula for normalisation of the four sets of question paper and seeking clarity on ensuring that the normalisation formula is disclosed to the candidates thereby eliminating any possibility of arbitrariness in the process.”
The allocation of test cities was made on July 31, with the designated centres to be declared tomorrow, August 8. This tight timeline has left candidates with very little time to travel to their respective centres for the exam on August 11, as contended in the plea.
Additionally, the exam is scheduled to be conducted in two batches, and the normalisation formula remains undisclosed to the candidates, causing further apprehension among them.
The petitioner has argued that this lack of transparency adds to the stress and uncertainty for the candidates.
Consequently, the petitioner has requested that the exam be postponed until the petition is resolved.
