The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking an investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in the May 13 trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohana declined to hear the petition, remarking that it was based on vague, wild and casual allegations and lacked reliable material on record to support the claims.
The Bench, however, did not seem persuaded.
During the proceedings, the Chief Justice noted that the petitioner would not feel let down by the dismissal of one PIL, given the large number of public interest litigations he had previously filed.
The petition requested a CBI investigation into allegations that substantial amounts of money were allegedly given to legislators from other parties, and that government contracts were offered in return for their support during the trust vote.

It also sought the imposition of President’s Rule in the State pending completion of the investigation.
After hearing the matter, the Court dismissed the petition and stated in its order,
“We have heard for considerable length. This writ petition is based on casual allegations without any reliable material to substantiate the same. No ground of interference is made out.”
Earlier, On May 13, the C Joseph Vijay-led TVK government in Tamil Nadu cleared a significant hurdle by winning the trust vote comfortably, aided by the support of 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs, even as the DMK walked out of the proceedings.

While the TVK did not secure the majority on its own in the 234-member Assembly, Vijay built a coalition by securing backing from the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI (M) and IUML.
This helped him gather 120 legislators, surpassing the 118 mark needed to form the government an outcome viewed as evidence of his political flexibility beyond his public image as a popular actor.
The Opposition levelled allegations of horse-trading, which Vijay denied.
