Supreme Court Alerts Public of Phishing Attack via Counterfeit Website

In a recent development, the Supreme Court of India has raised an alarm regarding a counterfeit website that has been created with the intent of executing a phishing attack. The fake website, which closely mimics the official Supreme Court website, has been identified with the URLs http://cbins/scigv.com and https://cbins.scigv.com/offence.

The fraudulent website, under the header ‘Offence of Money-Laundering’, is designed to deceive users into providing their personal details, including internet banking credentials and credit/debit card information. The site presents detailed information about the purported offense and prompts users to input various data, such as bank name, phone number, Permanent Account Number (PAN), online banking user ID, login password, and card password.

In a public notice, the Supreme Court emphatically cautioned the general public, stating,

“Any visitor on the above URLs is strongly advised not to share and divulge any personal and confidential information, as the same shall enable the perpetrators to steal the information.”

The Court further clarified that it never solicits personal, financial, or confidential details from anyone.

The advisory from the Supreme Court’s registry underscores the importance of verifying the authenticity of links before clicking on them. It specifically highlighted that the official domain of the Supreme Court of India is www.sci.gov.in. Users are urged to hover over URLs to confirm their legitimacy before proceeding.

For those who might have fallen prey to this phishing scheme, the advisory recommends immediate action:

“In case you have been a victim of the above phishing attack, please change your passwords for all your online accounts and also contact your bank and credit card company to report such unauthorized access.”

In response to this cyber threat, the Supreme Court has already flagged the issue with law enforcement agencies, initiating an investigation to apprehend the culprits behind this malicious act.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that even the most esteemed institutions are not immune to cyber threats. The public is advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution when navigating the digital realm.
