Today (9th April), Ramdev and Balkrishna of Patanjali tender an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court. The apology comes as a resolution to a legal matter. The move showcases a commitment to legal compliance by the prominent figures. Patanjali’s leadership aims for amicable resolution and adherence to legal protocols.

New Delhi: Yoga guru Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd’s Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna submitted an “unconditional and unqualified apology” to the Supreme Court concerning advertisements from the company that made exaggerated claims about its products’ medicinal effectiveness. In separate affidavits filed with the apex court, Ramdev and Balkrishna apologized without reservation for the violation of the statement made in the Supreme Court’s order dated November 21 of the previous year.
Referring to the November 21, 2023 order, the Supreme Court acknowledged the assurance given by Patanjali Ayurved’s counsel that there would be no further breaches of laws, particularly regarding product advertising or branding, and no statements questioning medicinal efficacy or disparaging any medical system would be released to the media. The court emphasized that Patanjali Ayurved Ltd obligated to uphold this assurance. However, the failure to adhere to this commitment and subsequent media remarks displeased the Supreme Court, which subsequently issued a notice requiring them to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated.

In his affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Ramdev stated,
“I hereby offer my unconditional apology concerning the advertisement issue subsequent to the statement made by respondent no. 5’s counsel, as noted in the November 21, 2023 order, which I understand to carry the weight of an injunction.”
Baba Ramdev conveyed to the apex court his sincere regret over the mistake and assured that it would not occur again in the future.
He expressed, further stating,
“I now offer a complete and unreserved apology for violating the statement outlined in paragraph 3 of the court’s order dated November 21, 2023.”
Ramdev pledged to strictly adhere to the court’s directives, ensuring no similar advertisements are released in the future. He tendered an unconditional apology for the press conference held on November 22 last year, promising not to make any statements that might breach court undertakings.
Ramdev stated,
“I deeply regret this lapse and assure that the same will not be repeated again in the future,” “I seek pardon for the aforementioned breach of the statement. I commit to upholding the majesty of law and justice.”
Similarly, Balkrishna also expressed regret for the breach of the court’s order from November 21 last year, offering an unconditional apology on behalf of Patanjali.

Balkrishna affirmed,
“I sincerely regret the issuance of advertisements by Patanjali, which violated the order dated November 21, 2023. I tender my unconditional and unqualified apology in this matter,”
The Supreme Court, dissatisfied with previous apologies,and is set to hear the case Wednesday, on April 10, presided over by Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah.
Previously, Yoga Guru Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishnan offered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for breaching the court’s order regarding misleading advertisements for Patanjali’s medicinal products. However, the court strongly criticized their apologies, stating that they disregarded their commitments to the court, leading to the court taking the matter seriously.
