NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today (June 14) issued a notice regarding a transfer petition filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The petition seeks to transfer a case from the Delhi High Court to the Supreme Court, concerning allegations of a paper leak and irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 exam held on May 5, 2024.

The vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has tagged the NTA’s transfer petition with other petitions related to the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak, scheduling them for a hearing on July 8.

“Three other transfer petitions have been filed in respect of petitions in High Courts on the issue of grace marks,”

– submitted Advocate Vardhaman Kaushik, appearing for the NTA.

He added that these transfer petitions are being withdrawn following the authority’s decision to revoke the grace marks, which was recorded in the order passed by the Supreme Court the previous day.

“The High Court will be informed of the Supreme Court’s order on the issue of grace marks,”

– he said.

The Supreme Court has fixed July 8 as the date for hearing the petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the NEET-UG entrance exam case. Alongside the plea demanding a CBI probe, the top court will also hear the NTA’s petition to transfer NEET-UG-related cases from various High Courts across the country to the Supreme Court.

On June 13, the National Testing Agency requested the Supreme Court to transfer all NEET-UG 2024-related cases from various high courts to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court of India directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union to revoke the ‘grace marks’ previously awarded to 1,563 candidates during the NEET-UG examination. This verdict marks a significant milestone in the ongoing discussions about the fairness and integrity of the NEET-UG assessment process.

A Vacation Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta ruled that candidates would now be informed of their actual scores without any compensatory or grace marks. If they choose not to retake the test, their original scores, excluding grace marks, will be considered their final scores.

“Candidates will now be informed of their actual scores without any compensatory or grace marks,”

-the bench stated.

“If they choose not to retake the test, their original scores, excluding grace marks, will be considered their final scores,”

-it further clarified.

These 1,563 candidates now have the option to retake the examination. If they choose not to participate in the re-exam, their original scores, excluding the grace marks, will be considered their final NEET-UG results. The court’s decision aims to maintain the examination’s fairness and integrity.

“Candidates who do not opt for the re-examination will have their original scores considered as final,”

-the court emphasized.

The NTA assured the Supreme Court that the re-examination process and the declaration of results would be concluded by July 1. The NEET-UG counseling process is likely to commence on July 4.

“The re-examination is scheduled for June 23, with results expected to be announced on June 30,”

-the NTA informed the court.

On June 12, the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the Delhi High Court that it plans to request the Supreme Court consolidate all matters related to the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) 2024 controversy.

“The NTA will request the Supreme Court to consolidate all matters related to NEET-UG 2024,”

– the NTA’s counsel conveyed to the Delhi High Court.
