NEW DELHI: A group of medical aspirants has taken a decisive step in their pursuit of justice by moving the Supreme Court, alleging that the recently conducted National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination, held on May 5, 2024, was marred by a paper leak. This troubling revelation has stirred widespread unease among students, resulting in the lodgment of a fresh petition in the apex court on June 1, 2024. The petition advocates for a re-evaluation and a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities that have clouded the reputation of the prestigious exam.
Expressing profound concerns regarding the fairness of the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) conducted examination, petitioners have made significant accusations concerning the alleged preferential treatment received by specific candidates. These allegations directly challenge the essence of Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which advocates for equality before the law. Lodged under Article 32, the petition seeks judicial intervention to compel the NTA to organize a re-examination, thereby guaranteeing equitable opportunities for every aspirant.
This matter follows a previous attempt to address the issue on May 17 when the Supreme Court declined to stay the declaration of the NEET-UG 2024 results, despite similar concerns raised in another petition.
However, the court took cognizance of the matter and issued a notice, indicating its willingness to deliberate on the issue in July. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, presiding over the bench, underscored the complexity of staying results of examinations conducted on a nationwide scale.
Dr. Vivek Pandey, a prominent health activist, has emerged as a steadfast ally in the students’ quest for justice. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Pandey announced the filing of the petition, reiterating the imperative need for a fair resolution.

They highlight a range of malpractices that have emerged, raising significant questions about the fairness and openness of the NEET-UG 2024 examination.
