NEW DELHI: A new petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court against the demands for re-examination of NEET-UG 2024 admissions. This time, a group of 56 students from Gujarat, who have successfully cleared the exams, have approached the apex court to voice their concerns against the calls for cancelling the NEET-UG 2024 results.

These students have expressed that the ongoing media coverage of the re-examination demands has caused significant anxiety and stress among those who have achieved their results through hard work and dedication.

The students have argued in their plea that only those candidates who were involved in unfair practices during the examination should have their results cancelled. They emphasized that a blanket cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 results and a subsequent re-examination would be unjust to those who have sincerely and diligently prepared for and cleared the exam.

In their plea to the Supreme Court, the students stated:

“The Hon’ble court is urged to instruct the respondents against conducting a re-examination for NEET-UG 2024 by nullifying the exam held on 05.05.2024. Such an action would not only unfairly impact diligent students but also violate the Right to Education.”

This highlights their contention that re-conducting the examination would violate the principles of fairness and justice, adversely affecting the genuine candidates who have already proven their merit.

The petition reflects the broader sentiment among students who feel that their efforts and achievements are being overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the examination. They argue that the integrity of the examination process should be upheld, and the focus should be on penalizing only those who have compromised the examination’s fairness through dishonest means.

This latest plea adds to the ongoing legal discourse about the NEET-UG 2024 examinations, with various stakeholders weighing in on the best course of action to ensure justice and fairness for all candidates involved. The Supreme Court’s decision on this matter will be crucial in determining the future of the NEET-UG 2024 admissions process and the credibility of the examination system as a whole.

In a recent legal submission, a group of young students aged 17-18 years, who have dedicated themselves to rigorous and consistent preparation over the past 3-4 years, voiced their concerns in court regarding the integrity of the NEET (UG) 2024 examination. These aspirants, driven by their dream of becoming doctors, expressed their frustration and sought justice in light of alleged malpractices surrounding the exam.

The petitioners urged the court to take decisive action against those involved in fraudulent activities that compromised the fairness of the exam. They specifically requested the court to “issue instructions to identify candidates and centers that have engaged in unfair practices and malpractices to achieve higher ranks.” Their plea highlighted the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the examination process, ensuring that only deserving candidates achieve their rightful positions.

The petition included a fervent appeal:

“Grant a writ of mandamus or any other suitable writ, order, or directive, instructing Respondent No. 01 to investigate and identify students who have engaged in unfair practices, as well as individuals involved in illegal activities such as paper leakage, impersonation, or other fraudulent acts, and to take stringent actions against all such offenders.”

This call to action underscored the petitioners’ commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and meritocracy in the competitive field of medical education.

The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, is set to hear the petitions on July 8. These petitions allege a range of malpractices, including paper leaks and other fraudulent activities, during the NEET-UG 2024 exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The upcoming hearing is expected to address these serious allegations and potentially implement measures to prevent such issues in future examinations.

The NEET (UG) exam is a crucial gateway for students aspiring to enter the medical profession in India. With intense competition and limited seats available, the stakes are incredibly high. Any compromise in the examination’s integrity not only affects individual students but also undermines the credibility of the entire educational system.
