During these periods, the apex court will hear only miscellaneous matters, as per a circular issued by the Registry.
According to the circular dated December 12, 2025 (F.No.26/Judl./2025), the decision applies to Members of the Bar, parties-in-person, and all stakeholders. The notification has been signed by senior officials of the Supreme Court Registry and circulated to all relevant associations and notice boards.
What Are Miscellaneous Weeks in the Supreme Court?
During Miscellaneous Weeks, the Supreme Court generally takes up:
- Fresh admission matters
- Bail applications
- Transfer petitions
- Urgent interlocutory applications
- Time-sensitive cases requiring immediate attention
Regular hearing matters and final disposal cases are usually not listed during these weeks unless specifically directed by the Court.
The declaration of miscellaneous weeks is significant for:
- Advocates, who must plan their listings accordingly
- Litigants, whose regular matters may be deferred
- Law firms and legal teams, managing court calendars
Lawyers are advised to check cause lists carefully and move urgent matters, if required, during this time.
