The Court has postponed the matter to December 18, the existing deadline, and will decide on any extension at that time.
The Apex Court of India has taken note of the pending submission of SIR (Special Integrated Register) enumeration forms in Kerala, as the state works to complete its digitization process ahead of the extended deadline.
During the hearing, counsel informed the bench that approximately 20 lakh enumeration forms are still pending, highlighting the scale of work remaining in the state.
Senior Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, appearing on behalf of the Election Commission of India (ECI), emphasized that over 90.42% of the forms have already been digitized. Dwivedi also mentioned that the deadline for submission had been extended until December 18, 2025, adding that the ECI is closely monitoring the situation and may further extend the timeline if necessary.
Senior Advocate Maninder Singh countered the request for an extension, stating that these applications were “based merely on conjectures,” suggesting that a further extension might not be warranted without concrete evidence of delay.
