NEW DELHI: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao called upon the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings against Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, over his comments regarding the bail granted to BRS MLC, K Kavitha, in the Delhi excise policy case.

Expressing his strong disapproval of Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s remarks, KT Rama Rao accused the Union Minister of casting aspersions on the Supreme Court.

He took to social media platform X to voice his concerns, stating,

“You’re a Union minister in charge of Home Affairs & casting aspersions on the Supreme Court!! Highly unbecoming of your position.”

KT Rama Rao further urged the judiciary to take note of the situation, saying,

“I respectfully urge the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India & the respected Supreme Court to take cognisance of these comments and initiate contempt proceedings.”

Bandi Sanjay Kumar had responded to the bail granted to Kavitha by sarcastically congratulating the Congress party and its legal representatives.

“Congratulations to the Congress party and its advocates for securing bail for BRS MLC in the infamous liquor scam. Your untiring efforts finally yielded fruits. This bail is a win for both BRS and Congress — BRS leader is out on bail & the Congress man gets to Rajya Sabha,”

-he posted on X, referencing Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the Congress candidate for Rajya Sabha from Telangana.

He further commented on the political dynamics involved, stating,

“Remarkable political acumen by KCR in supporting the candidate, who initially argued for the bail, to be nominated to Rajya Sabha unopposed by the ruling Congress. Congratulations to the partners in crime who wine & dine.”

KT Rama Rao, who is Kavitha’s brother, had earlier expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court after it granted her bail, posting,

“Thank You Supreme Court. Relieve. Justice prevailed,”

-on X.

Both KT Rama Rao and his cousin, senior BRS leader T Harish Rao, were present in the Supreme Court when the bail orders were announced. The decision was met with congratulations from several BRS leaders who were in the national capital at the time.

BRS leader Dr. Sravan Dasoju hailed the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for truth and justice, emphasizing that it came after what the BRS described as politically-motivated allegations against Kavitha.

He highlighted the importance of the court’s observations during the hearing, noting,

“The Honorable Supreme Court has questioned the rationale behind keeping Srimathi Kavitha in custody even after the investigation was complete and the charge sheet was filed.”
