Telangana women journalists have approached the Supreme Court fearing arrest for criticising CM Revanth Reddy. The Supreme Court has agreed to urgently hear their special leave petition over alleged abusive content shared and amplified against the Chief Minister.

The Supreme Court agreed to expedite a special leave petition filed by two women journalists from Telangana who are concerned about the possibility of arrest due to their posts and the amplification of allegedly abusive content directed at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

The journalists, Pogadadanda Revathi, Managing Director of Pulse News, and Thanvi Yadav, a reporter for the same channel, are challenging a Telangana High Court ruling that upheld a Sessions Court decision requiring them to be taken into police custody.

They were initially arrested on March 12 but were released on bail by the Magistrate Court shortly thereafter.

However, following the high court’s recent ruling, they now fear another arrest.

The counsel representing the journalists requested an urgent hearing, informing the Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai that after seven months of being on bail, they are once again anxious about arrest and potential seizure of their office due to the high court’s order for police custody.

The journalists were detained following a complaint from the head of the Congress state social media unit and are facing serious allegations, including publishing obscene material, organized crime, criminal conspiracy, spreading rumors to incite hatred, and provoking a breach of peace.
