The Supreme Court of India dismissed the petition challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s order in the JSSC CGL paper leak case. The verdict brings relief to successful candidates as appointments can now proceed without hurdles.
New Delhi: In a major relief for thousands of young job aspirants in Jharkhand, the Supreme Court of India has given its final decision in the much-discussed Jharkhand CGL exam paper leak case.
The apex court dismissed the petition that challenged the earlier order passed by the Jharkhand High Court and clearly supported the stand of the state government and the candidates who had cleared the examination. With this verdict, the long-standing uncertainty over the recruitment process has finally come to an end.
The matter was heard by a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. While refusing to interfere with the High Court’s order, the bench observed that the decision taken earlier was
“absolutely correct and fair, there is no need for any kind of interference in it.”
This clear statement from the Supreme Court has removed all doubts regarding the validity of the results and has opened the door for the appointment of the selected candidates.
The case is linked to the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission, where allegations of a paper leak had surfaced.
Due to these allegations, the future of many successful candidates had remained uncertain for months, even though they had cleared the exam through hard work.
Earlier, on December 3, the Jharkhand High Court had delivered an important judgment in the matter. The High Court took a balanced approach and stayed the results of 10 candidates who were suspected to be involved in the alleged paper leak.

At the same time, it allowed the recruitment process to continue for the remaining candidates who were not under suspicion. The court also directed the commission to complete the recruitment process and publish the merit list without delay.
Following the High Court’s order, the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission released the merit list, and the state government issued appointment letters to the successful candidates last week. However, a petition was filed challenging this decision, which led to the matter reaching the Supreme Court.
The High Court had carefully examined the allegations and made it clear that only the results of doubtful or accused candidates should be withheld. It rejected the demand to hand over the entire investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, stating that the case did not require such intervention.
Instead, the court allowed the already formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) to continue its probe and directed it to complete the investigation within six months.
During the hearings, advocate Amritansh Vats strongly argued on behalf of the successful candidates and highlighted that innocent candidates should not suffer because of the alleged wrongdoing of a few individuals. These arguments played an important role in protecting the interests of genuine candidates.
With the Supreme Court now upholding the High Court’s order, the biggest beneficiaries of this decision are the candidates who had been waiting for their jobs for a long time.
There is now no restriction on their appointments, and they can finally join their respective posts. The verdict has brought much-needed relief, clarity, and closure to one of Jharkhand’s most debated recruitment controversies.
