Today, On 18th February, The Supreme Court of India took strong note of podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on a YouTube show, pointing out that his comments were copied from an Australian program. Allahbadia, who faces multiple FIRs, used inappropriate language during the show, which was part of the paid program ‘India’s Got Latent’. The court emphasized the need for clear warnings for adult content to protect viewers.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court stated on Tuesday that it is aware of podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments made during a YouTube show, noting that he had copied them from an Australian program.
Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh remarked,
“We are not sitting in ivory towers. We know from various sources… how he has tried to copy it from an Australian programme and from there, he has tried to pick up some actor’s dialogue.”
While hearing Allahbadia’s plea, the bench expressed disapproval of his language, saying,
“He should be ashamed of the embarrassment he has caused to his parents.”
The remarks were made during the show “India’s Got Latent,” hosted by comedian Samay Raina. Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, pointed out that the program is a paid subscription service intended for adults.
Justice Kant noted that some societies take measures to warn audiences about potentially inappropriate content, stating,
“These are all copied programmes… When you are doing it, then you must warn and take precautions.”
Chandrachud explained that the controversy began when subscribers shared a 10-second clip from the 45-minute episode on YouTube. The Supreme Court was considering Allahbadia’s request to consolidate and dismiss the FIRs filed against him, and while it granted him protection from arrest, it criticized him for his comments.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the Guwahati Police registered an FIR against several well-known YouTubers and social media influencers for allegedly promoting obscenity.
The accused include Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina, among others.
The FIR filed against the influencers for engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussions in a show titled ‘India’s Got Latent.’
Allahbadia’s inappropriate question, “Watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life. Or would you join in once and stop it forever?” went viral, leading to widespread outrage on social media, with people and politicians criticizing him and the other panellists for their vulgar language.
This led to calls for a ban on the show in India, resulting in FIRs against Allahbadia and his fellow panellists, including Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija.
In light of the opposition , Allahbadia issued a public apology, admitting to a “lapse in judgment.” Following the uproar, Samay Raina deleted all episodes of the show from his YouTube channel.
