NEW DELHI: Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court, asking for urgent help because he is facing continuous harassment and even death threats after his comments on the now-deleted YouTube reality show India’s Got Latent.

“his tongue to be severed.”

This has created an environment of fear and insecurity around him. However, when he requested an urgent hearing, the Supreme Court refused.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna stated that

“oral mentioning of the case is not permitted.”

Allahbadia, in his petition, mentioned that ever since the show was aired, he has been facing an

“unyielding wave of death threats and incessant harassment”

from both the media and the general public.

He pointed out posts on the social media platform X, where people have openly called for violence against him. He stressed that such threats directly violate his fundamental rights and could disturb public order.

Through his plea, he requested the court to step in and stop any further criminal acts against him.

He also argued in his petition that the government and authorities must take these threats seriously. Ignoring them could have a negative impact on the right to free speech, making people afraid to express their opinions.

Allahbadia clarified that his statements on the show were “unscripted and spontaneous” and were just a mistake in the moment, not something he planned to do on purpose. He urged that his comments should not be used to judge his character or intentions. He strongly maintained that he never wanted to hurt or offend anyone.

Mentioning the multiple FIRs (First Information Reports) filed against him, He claimed that they were filed with bad intentions to suppress his basic right to free speech, which is protected under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution.

He requested the Supreme Court to cancel the FIRs registered against him in Mumbai and Guwahati under various laws, including the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

If canceling them was not possible, he asked for them to be combined, a temporary halt on investigations, protection from being arrested, and security for himself and his family.

Despite his plea, the Supreme Court refused to grant an urgent hearing.

His lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, requested an immediate listing of the case, but the court decided that the matter would be heard as per the usual legal procedure.
