Fake Passport Case: Supreme Court Rejects Abdullah Azam Khan’s Plea

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has rejected the plea filed by former Uttar Pradesh MLA Abdullah Azam Khan, son of senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, seeking to quash an FIR accusing him of using forged documents to obtain a passport.

The matter was heard by a Bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma, who upheld the proceedings initiated against Abdullah Azam Khan. The court’s decision effectively allows the investigation into the alleged forgery case to continue.

Allegations Against Abdullah Azam Khan

The cases arose from allegations that Abdullah Azam Khan used forged documents and false information while applying for official travel documents, including a passport. Authorities claim that Abdullah misrepresented his date of birth and submitted fake identity documents to secure the documents.

According to reports, the discrepancies came to light during a verification process that allegedly revealed inconsistencies in the records provided by the SP leader’s son. Following this, two separate FIRs were registered, leading to criminal proceedings that Abdullah later sought to have quashed.

High Court’s Order Upheld

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court dismissed Abdullah’s plea, observing that there was sufficient prima facie evidence to allow the trial to proceed. The court emphasized that allegations involving forgery and falsification of official documents warranted full judicial scrutiny rather than early termination.

The Supreme Court’s refusal to interfere means that the trial in the lower court will continue as per the existing charges

Abdullah Azam Khan, a two-time MLA from Rampur’s Suar constituency, has long been seen as part of the next generation of SP leadership. However, he has been facing multiple legal challenges over the years, including cases related to fraud, forgery, and misuse of government documents.

The Khan family, including his father, Azam Khan, a veteran politician and former Uttar Pradesh minister, has consistently claimed that the legal actions against them are politically motivated.

So far, Abdullah Azam or his legal representatives have not issued a fresh statement following the Supreme Court’s latest ruling.
