Supreme Court to Hear on November 11 the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) Plea Challenging the Election Commission’s Decision to Conduct a Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Tamil Nadu Ahead of the Upcoming Elections.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court scheduled to hear the DMK’s challenge against the Election Commission’s decision to carry out a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu on November 11.

A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran listened to the request from lawyer Vivek Singh, representing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), for an expedited hearing.

The CJI said,

“List it on Tuesday,”

Earlier, On November 3, R S Bharathi, the organizing secretary of the DMK, filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the SIR, labeling the initiative as “unconstitutional, arbitrary, and a threat to democratic rights.”

The petition, prepared by senior advocate and MP N R Elango and submitted by lawyer Vivek Singh, seeks to annul the Election Commission’s notification issued on October 27 regarding the SIR in the state.

It argues that the SIR violates Articles 14, 19, and 21 (which pertain to the right to equality, freedom of speech, and the right to life) as well as other constitutional provisions and the Representation of People Act, along with the Registration of Electors Rules of 1960.

The plea stated,

“Issue a writ of certiorari calling for records pertaining to order dated October 27, 2025 of the respondent directing that a Special Intensive Revision be conducted in the State of Tamil Nadu,”

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is a major political party in Tamil Nadu, founded in 1949 by C.N. Annadurai. Rooted in the Dravidian movement, the DMK advocates for social justice, rationalism, and regional autonomy, and has played a central role in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape for decades.
