BRIEF FACTS

A case has been filed against Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, the MLA from Vijayapura, for allegedly insulting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a recent public meeting, according to police reports.

The complaint was lodged by Congress Municipal Councilor Parashuram Hosamani, who claimed that at an event on October 15, Yatnal made derogatory remarks about both Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Following this complaint, a case was registered against Yatnal at the Gandhi Chowk police station for intentionally insulting someone to provoke a breach of peace and for spreading false information.

Additionally, Yatnal is facing another case after he allegedly claimed that a prominent leader had allocated Rs 1,000 crore to undermine the Congress government in the state.

Based on a complaint from S. Manohar, the general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, the High Grounds police charged him under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to maliciously provoking others to incite a riot.

In a statement made in Davangere, Yatnal suggested that a “great leader” from his party was using significant funds to topple the Congress government and pursue the Chief Minister position, although he did not disclose the leader’s identity.

He further remarked that many aspirants for the Chief Minister role in Karnataka are attempting to sway MLAs and hinted at an “Operation Lotus, likely supported by money obtained through corruption. In response, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwar stated he was unaware of anyone amassing Rs 1,000 crore to destabilize the state government.
