Delhi Elections 2025 | Supreme Court & Delhi High Court Announce Holiday Today – Feb 5 Due To Polls

The Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court have declared Today-February 5, 2025, as a holiday due to the General Elections-2025 in Delhi. Supreme Court matters for this date are rescheduled to February 12, 2025, while Delhi High Court and subordinate court cases will be taken up on February 6, 2025, in addition to pre-scheduled hearings.

Delhi Elections 2025 | Supreme Court & Delhi High Court Announce Holiday Today - Feb 5 Due To Polls

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi have issued separate announcements regarding holidays and changes in schedules for hearings.

In the Supreme Court of India circular dated 31st January 2025, it was conveyed that since 5th February 2025 (Wednesday) has been declared as a holiday, all cases and matters that were scheduled for this date will now be rescheduled to the following Wednesday, 12th February 2025, subject to the availability of slots.

The circular stated:

“Members of the Bar, Parties-in-Person, and all Stakeholders are informed that since 05.02.2025 has been declared as a holiday, the matters directed to be listed on 05.02.2025 (Wednesday), including those which are noted for the said date, shall be listed on next Wednesday i.e. 12.02.2025, subject to availability of slot.”

Similarly, the High Court of Delhi issued a notification on the same day, 31st January 2025, to inform that 5th February 2025 (Wednesday) has been declared a holiday for the High Court and its subordinate courts. This holiday is on account of the General Elections-2025 in the Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi.

The notification mentioned that all cases listed on 5th February 2025 in the High Court and subordinate courts, including those awaiting judgments or orders, will now be taken up on Thursday, 6th February 2025, in addition to the already scheduled cases for that day. The notification stated:

“It is notified for information of all concerned that Wednesday, the 05th February, 2025 is declared as a holiday for High Court of Delhi and the Courts subordinate to this Court, on account of General Elections-2025 in Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi.”

Further, it added:

“The cases listed (including the cases wherein orders/judgments are reserved) before this Court as well as the Courts Subordinate to this Court on Wednesday, the 05th February, 2025 shall be taken up on Thursday, the 06th February, 2025, in addition to the cases already fixed for the said date.”

This notification was issued under the authority of Registrar General Kanwal Jeet Arora.
