Today, On 16th June, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin Slammed Governor RN Ravi, saying he has not changed his ways despite the Supreme Court verdict and is deliberately holding back the Kalaignar University Bill, stalling key state development and welfare plans.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticized Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Monday for the delay in approving the bill to establish Kalaignar University in Thanjavur. He accused the Governor of intentionally obstructing the legislative process under the influence of the Union Government.

At a public meeting, Stalin expressed that despite a recent Supreme Court ruling limiting the powers of Governors, Ravi has not changed and continues to hold up Bills passed by the Assembly.

Stalin stated,

“I announced the construction of a new university in Thanjavur. Though I was initially hesitant, leaders from several parties insisted that the university be named after Kalaignar. We passed the Bill and sent it to the Governor on May 2. It’s been 40 days and he has still not given his assent,”

The Chief Minister noted that multiple reminders had been sent, and the Higher Education Minister had even requested an appointment with the Governor to discuss the Bill.

Stalin added,

“But the Governor has not given him time. He is afraid to meet us as we would ask about the Bill. People of Tamil Nadu are wondering what’s keeping him so busy,”

He remarked that the Governor would be forced to submit if the state’s patience wore thin.

This criticism follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that Governors should not withhold Bills indefinitely and must act on them “as soon as possible.”

In April of this year, the Supreme Court criticized Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for sitting on over 10 Bills passed by the legislative Assembly and took the unusual step of clearing them.

MK Stalin praised this ruling as a “historic victory,” and DMK supporters celebrated by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets.

Reflecting on his five-decade political journey, Stalin remarked,

“Despite opposition leaders, the Governor, and the Union Government, we are successfully introducing and implementing many schemes. I ask you all to continue supporting me… In my 50 years of political life, I have faced many difficulties and challenges. I have even experienced the MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act). I have confronted numerous enemies and struggles, and it is only because of your love and support that I stand here today as Chief Minister.”

He concluded by urging patience and collective resolve, stating,

“Today, the Governor still has not permitted Kalaignar University. Let us be patient, and when the time comes, we will unite and force the Governor to grant assent for Kalaignar University.”

According to Stalin, camps will be conducted in 10,000 locations across the state.
