NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear cases on January 15 related to the transfer of pleas regarding the results of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025. These pleas have been filed by the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) to move cases from various high courts to the Supreme Court.
According to the Supreme Court’s website, a bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar will review two petitions submitted by the CNLUs. The main aim is to resolve disputes about CLAT 2025 results through a single authoritative judgment and to avoid multiple litigations in different courts. Advocate Pritha Srikumar Iyer has filed these petitions on behalf of the consortium.

Recently, a CLAT aspirant informed a division bench of the Delhi High Court about the numerous petitions pending across various high courts. The aspirant also mentioned that transfer pleas would soon be presented before the Supreme Court. As a result, the Delhi High Court postponed the hearing of these petitions to January 30.
On December 20, 2024, a single-judge bench of the Delhi High Court directed the consortium to revise the results of CLAT 2025 due to errors in the answer key. The bench ruled that answers to two questions in the exam were incorrect.
The order was issued after a CLAT aspirant challenged the answer key released on December 7, 2024, and requested corrections for specific questions.
The single judge stated that the errors in the answer key were “demonstrably clear” and that ignoring them would lead to “injustice.” However, while the aspirant’s request to rectify answers for two other questions was denied, the consortium decided to appeal against this decision.

On December 24, 2024, a division bench reviewed the appeals but refused to issue any interim orders. The bench observed no major flaws in the single judge’s decision regarding the two questions and allowed the consortium to declare the results in line with the ruling.
The CLAT 2025, conducted on December 1, 2024, is a national-level entrance exam for admission to five-year LLB courses in National Law Universities (NLUs).
The results were announced on December 7, 2024.
