NEW DELHI: The Chief Justice of India (CJI) today( on 26th April),has passed an urgent order to address the plea of a 92-year-old war veteran who is facing prostate cancer. The veteran’s plea had been pending for two years before the committee headed by Justice AM Sapre, which is dealing with the Noida Unitech House Buyers Issue. The veteran’s daughter represented him in person during the proceedings.
During the hearing, the CJI highlighted the critical circumstances surrounding the appellant’s case. The 92-year-old war veteran had invested a substantial amount of Rs 12 lakhs, and his health condition, prostate cancer, added to the urgency of his situation. Recognizing the matter, the CJI requested that the appellant’s Interlocutory Application (IA) be placed before Justice AM Sapre for immediate consideration.
Furthermore, the CJI emphasized that the disbursal of the refunded amount should be expedited. The court set a deadline of May 5 for the refund to be processed, contingent upon Justice Sapre’s recommendation for the refund.

Expressing her gratitude, the veteran’s daughter addressed the court, saying-
“Your Lordship, I express my gratitude for your support and the blessings bestowed upon me by a 92-year-old. Thank you sincerely.”
Her heartfelt words conveyed the relief and appreciation felt by the family for the court’s intervention in their father’s case.
The IA was presented before a bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud. The 92-year-old army veteran, battling cancer, had approached the court as his plea had not been heard by the Justice AM Sapre committee, responsible for addressing homebuyers’ issues in the Unitech case.
During the hearing, the CJI acknowledged the veteran’s investment of Rs 12 lakhs, underscoring the need for the committee to consider his application promptly. To ensure a swift resolution, the CJI ordered that the disbursal of the refunded amount should take place by May 5 if the committee recommends such action.
This order by the CJI brings hope and relief to the 92-year-old war veteran and his family. It emphasizes the court’s commitment to ensuring justice for individuals facing challenging circumstances. The urgency shown in addressing the veteran’s plea reflects the court’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of its citizens.
