CJI Chandrachud: "Supreme Court to Get Air-Conditioned Corridors"

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud announced today that the corridors of the Supreme Court will soon be air-conditioned. This development is part of ongoing construction to install air-conditioning units outside at least three of the Supreme Court’s court halls, with completion expected within a week.

“The corridor outside courts 1, 2 and 3 will be completely air-conditioned now,”

-CJI Chandrachud remarked in open court.

He assured that the construction is being carried out with utmost care to preserve the historic integrity of the building.

“We have been in touch with expert agencies…We are in touch with IIT as well, since this is a historical building and the AC should not damage anything. We thought it will be over with the vacations, but it may take a week more,”

-he added.

CJI Chandrachud also highlighted other improvements made during the Supreme Court’s summer vacation, which concluded on Sunday.

“Now, we have extended facilities for Registrar Court and the Registrar shall be full-time and shall sit from Monday to Friday,”

-he said.

He further mentioned that the lawyers’ cubicles are now ready, and the lawyers’ waiting rooms outside have been remodeled to match the outer facade.

CJI also inaugurated the new lunchroom for senior advocates.

“The women’s bar room, a long-standing demand, is almost ready and should be completed in the next two or three days. We had 42 projects over the summer, all nearing completion.”

These upgrades are aimed at enhancing the working conditions for both the court’s staff and the legal professionals who frequent the Supreme Court.
