NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court provided reassurances to the government of the Aam Aadmi Party-AAP, stating that it holds the power to order the release of Rs 3,000 crore allocated to the Delhi Jal Board, even if these funds were to expire on the 31st of March.

The AAP administration had approached the Supreme Court with a petition for the urgent release of the allocated funds designated for the Delhi Jal Board. The request was brought before a bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing the AAP government, stressed the urgency of the matter, highlighting that the financial resources intended for the Delhi Jal Board were set to lapse by March 31st.

The bench, which also includes justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, announced their decision to schedule the hearing for April 1st. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud addressed the concerns raised by Singhvi, who had been adamant about the necessity of an expedited hearing on March 21st. The Chief Justice assured,

“We will list on April 1 and if we hold anything, a decision can be reversed. No problem.”

Singhvi, advocating for the AAP government, pointed out that despite the budget’s approval, the earmarked funds for the DJB had not been disbursed, a situation that could lead to the lapsing of these funds.
