The Supreme Court’s courtrooms have undergone significant technological upgrades, including the installation of advanced screens and state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities. These enhancements are part of the court’s broader e-initiatives aimed at modernizing the judicial system

In an innovative and environmentally conscious move, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has been at the forefront of transforming the Supreme Court into a paperless institution. This initiative, as articulated by CJI Chandrachud, is not just an effort to reduce the environmental impact but a significant stride towards enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of the judicial processes.

During a recent interaction with ANI, CJI Chandrachud emphasized the depth and breadth of this initiative.

“Our commitment to a paperless operation is unwavering. It’s not merely about reducing our carbon footprint; it’s fundamentally about refining our processes to be more efficient, seamless, and accountable. This also facilitates better monitoring of the various stages in the Registry’s process,”

he explained. This statement underscores the holistic approach the Supreme Court is taking towards digitization and environmental responsibility.

The inauguration of the Consultation Room and the Arbitration Room at the Supreme Court marks a significant milestone in this journey. CJI Chandrachud, along with his senior colleagues, expressed great satisfaction at this development. He highlighted the importance of these facilities in enhancing the working conditions of lawyers.

“When lawyers are provided with dignified and efficient working conditions, it not only benefits them but also contributes to the overall effectiveness of our judicial process. The Bar is an integral stakeholder in our system, and these facilities are a testament to our commitment to supporting them,”

he stated.

Rohit Pandey, the Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, also shared his insights on this development. He expressed his gratitude towards CJI Chandrachud for his proactive and responsive approach to the needs of the Bar Association.

“The new Consultation Room is a boon, especially for our young lawyers who lack personal chambers. It provides them with a dedicated space for client meetings and consultations, which is essential for their professional growth and effectiveness,”

Pandey remarked.

Previously, CJI Chandrachud had announced the implementation of free Wi-Fi in the first five courts, with plans to extend this facility to the bar rooms, reflecting the court’s commitment to embracing technology. He clarified that while the court is moving towards a paperless environment, it does not signify a complete departure from traditional methods.

“Books and papers will still hold their place, but our reliance on digital resources will increase,”

he stated.

The Supreme Court’s courtrooms have undergone significant technological upgrades, including the installation of advanced screens and state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities. These enhancements are part of the court’s broader e-initiatives aimed at modernizing the judicial system and making it more accessible and user-friendly for advocates, litigants, media persons, and other stakeholders.

In summary, these progressive steps undertaken by the Supreme Court under the leadership of CJI Chandrachud represent a pivotal shift towards a more sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced judicial system. This transition not only aligns with global environmental goals but also sets a new standard for judicial processes in India.
