Today, On 5th February, The Supreme Court will hear SCBA’s contempt plea on the shoe hurling incident after three weeks, with the Solicitor General set to examine draft guidelines. The CJI told the counsel, “Very well. You can take it at ease.”

The Supreme Court heard the criminal contempt petition filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), which has accused certain acts of undermining the authority of the court and the administration of justice.
The matter is linked to what has been described as the “shoe hurling incident”.
The case came before a Bench led by the Chief Justice of India and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the SCBA told the Bench,
“My Lords, there is a contempt matter SCBA had filed. My Lords had asked us to make some draft guidelines. We have made some draft guidelines. We have in fact given a copy to the learned Solicitor General also.”
In response, the Chief Justice said that the Solicitor General should also be present and examine the document.
The CJI observed,
“Let the SG also be there. He can also go through it. Meanwhile, you can circulate it.”
The counsel for the SCBA then assured the Bench that they would share the draft again and said,
“We will again circulate, my Lords. We have it after three weeks, my Lords.”
Hearing this, the Chief Justice permitted them to proceed comfortably and said,
“Very well. You can take it at ease.”
The Supreme Court will now take up the matter after three weeks, and the fresh draft guidelines prepared by the SCBA are expected to be examined by the Solicitor General before the next hearing.
