A Bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar has requested responses from both the Uttar Pradesh government and the complainant involved in the case.
The Bench was addressing a petition filed by Maurya, who is currently the chief of the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, challenging an April 12 ruling by the Allahabad High Court.
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had previously declined to quash the summons and criminal proceedings against Maurya, which were related to a marital dispute concerning his daughter.
Both Maurya and his daughter were charged with “offences of cheating and bigamy.”
The charges stem from a complaint by a man who claimed that he had married Maurya’s daughter in 2019. According to the complainant, she later remarried without obtaining a divorce from him.
The situation became more complex when she divorced her second husband in 2021. Despite this, a Lucknow court has issued “non-bailable warrants” against both her and Maurya, labeling them as “absconders.”
