Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced plans to appeal in the Supreme Court against bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and others accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. Following the Karnataka High Court’s bail ruling, police aim to challenge it due to the severity of the crime and potential influence on the investigation.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda announced on Tuesday that efforts are underway to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other accused in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case.
The commissioner stated,
“In connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, with regards to bail that has been granted, efforts are on to file an appeal in the Supreme Court. We will submit a proposal to the government on this.”
On Friday, the Karnataka High Court granted conditional bail to Darshan, who is accused number two in the case, along with several other accused. The bench led by Justice S Vishwajith Shetty extended the relief to Pavithra Gowda (accused number one) and others, including R Nagaraju, Anu Kumar alias Anu, Lakshman M, Jagadeesh alias Jagga, and Pradoosh S Rao.
Darshan, who had earlier been granted interim bail on medical grounds, walked out of Ballari jail on October 30, following a six-week relief to undergo spine surgery. His co-accused, Pavithra Gowda, was released on Tuesday from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after completing legal formalities.
The case revolves around the gruesome murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga and an ardent fan of Darshan. According to police investigations, the victim had sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, a close associate of the actor. The messages allegedly enraged Darshan, leading to a conspiracy and eventual murder.
On June 9, Renukaswamy’s body was discovered near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru. Police revealed that Raghavendra, a member of Darshan’s fan club in Chitradurga, had lured the victim to a shed in R R Nagar on the pretense of meeting the actor. In this shed, Renukaswamy was allegedly tortured and murdered.
The post-mortem report confirmed that Renukaswamy died due to shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries. Police investigations claim that Pavithra Gowda was the “major cause” of the murder, accusing her of instigating, conspiring, and actively participating in the crime.
With the accused now out on bail, the Bengaluru police are gearing up to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court. A formal proposal will be submitted to the state government to challenge the bail, underscoring the seriousness of the case and the potential influence of the accused on the investigation.
