Darshan Challenges Arms License Suspension in Karnataka High Court Amidst Renukaswamy Murder Case

Bengaluru: Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is the main accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, has now approached the Karnataka High Court because his arms license has been temporarily suspended.

Last week, the Bengaluru city police commissioner decided to suspend Darshan’s arms license soon after the Karnataka High Court granted him bail.

During a press meeting, the police had explained that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) received a request from the local police handling the Renukaswamy case. In this request, the local police asked for the cancellation of Actor’s firearm license because they believed that since he was out on bail, he might misuse it.

After this request, the police sent a notice to Actor, asking for his explanation. Once they received his response, the police decided to temporarily suspend his arms license.

Now, Actor has filed a petition in the High Court against this suspension. In his petition, he has explained that because he is a well-known actor, he constantly faces threats and security issues. This is why he had applied for an arms license, which was meant to ensure the safety of himself and his family.

Actor has also mentioned that it is a well-established legal rule that just because the police suspect that an accused person might misuse a licensed firearm, it cannot be used as a reason to suspend the arms license.

Because of this, Actor has requested the High Court to cancel the police order that suspended his arms license.

As of now, the High Court has not yet heard the petition.
