The Supreme Court heard the BCCI vs Cricket Association of Bihar case concerning cricket governance and Lodha Committee reforms. The CJI allowed BCCI to file a separate reply and directed all replies to be filed within one week.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court heard an important matter on January 12, concerning the governance of Indian cricket and the implementation of the Lodha Committee reforms. The case relates to long-standing disputes over administrative control within the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the role of the Cricket Association of Bihar in Indian cricket administration.

The appeal raises issues connected to the enforcement of governance reforms suggested by the Lodha Committee and disagreements involving various cricket bodies, including questions around administrative authority and compliance with earlier directions of the Court.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant took note of the fact that the Delhi District Cricket Association had already filed replies on record.

In view of this, the CJI clarified that the Board of Control for Cricket in India would still be permitted to place its response on record separately.

The Court observed,

“BCCI may file separately their replies’ as delhi district cricket associations already been filled.”

The Bench then passed further directions on the timeline for filing replies to ensure that the matter proceeds without delay. The Chief Justice directed that all necessary responses be filed within a fixed time frame along with complete documentation.

The Court stated,

“return within one week, with all the copies of reply by BCCI and DDCA.”

The case continues to remain significant as it concerns judicial scrutiny of cricket administration in India and the implementation of institutional reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and governance within the BCCI.
