Expressing concern, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the Andhra Pradesh government, conveyed today before a bench comprising Justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal that these threats are particularly troubling in light of the impending State elections.
He remarked,
“The conduct of the accused’s family is appalling. They are openly declaring that once we assume power, we will take action against all officials who have given statements (against them). They have even maintained a log of such…threatening statements just before the polls.”
Today, the Court granted Naidu two weeks to respond to these allegations, while allowing the State government to file a rejoinder to Naidu’s response within a week thereafter.
The case is scheduled for further hearing on March 19.
The bench considered a plea filed by the State of Andhra Pradesh challenging the November 3 decision of the Andhra Pradesh High Court granting bail to Naidu in the skill development program scam case.
Last November, the Supreme Court lifted a directive from the High Court to the former Chief Minister, permitting him to participate in public rallies and meetings as a condition for bail.
However, the Court maintained the condition set by the High Court prohibiting the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) leader from making public comments or engaging with the media regarding the case.
