NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court unveiled a set of administrative reforms aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance judicial efficiency and tackle the persistent problem of case pendency.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant termed the initiative as “some good news,” calling it a significant move towards improving court administration. Speaking during court proceedings, he noted the judiciary’s growing reliance on technology, including AI, to simplify administrative functions.

CJI Kant said,

“We are trying to harness AI for increasing operational efficiency and reduce case pendency,”

In a significant step towards modernising India’s judicial administration, the Supreme Court has launched a series of technology-driven initiatives aimed at reducing case pendency, improving efficiency, and enhancing transparency across the justice delivery system.

Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya kant announced the rollout of a digital case-management platform, an Integrated Online Payment System (IOPS), and an automated campus security solution known as PARKS (Park Authorisation Record-Keeping System).

Speaking on the occasion, the CJI said,

“We are launching several technology-driven initiatives to reduce case pendency and improve efficiency and transparency in the justice system. A major step is a new digital case-management platform in partnership with High Courts, which will track cases affected by changed circumstances, flag matters where proceedings in High Courts or trial courts are stayed due to pendency before the Supreme Court, and serve as a central repository of key case information across judicial tiers.”

The newly introduced digital case-management system is designed to create seamless coordination between the Supreme Court and High Courts. The platform will help identify cases impacted by evolving circumstances, flag matters where proceedings are stayed due to pendency before the apex court, and act as a centralized database of critical case information across different judicial levels.

This initiative is expected to significantly address long-standing concerns related to delays and duplication of judicial proceedings.

To improve transparency and streamline administrative processes, the Supreme Court is also launching the Integrated Online Payment System (IOPS).

The CJI stated:

“We are also introducing an Integrated Online Payment System (IOPS) to streamline and bring transparency to payments for administrative services used by lawyers, litigants, and Supreme Court staff, including examination and registration fees.”

The system will enable secure digital payments for various court-related services, reducing manual processes and increasing accountability.

CJI Kant said,

This will simplify the process by ushering in transparency,

In addition to judicial reforms, the Supreme Court is revamping its campus security infrastructure through PARKS (Park Authorisation Record-Keeping System), an automated vehicle-management system.

According to the announcement,

“Additionally, we are revamping campus security through an automated vehicle-management system called PARKS (Park Authorisation Record-Keeping System), enabling online applications, real-time tracking, automated verification, and improved enforcement.”

PARKS is expected to enhance safety, improve traffic management, and provide ease of access within the Supreme Court premises.

Summing up the impact of these reforms, the CJI emphasized:

“Together, these initiatives mark an important administrative milestone, enhancing safety, efficiency, and ease of access for the Bar, litigants, and all stakeholders.”

The launch of these digital initiatives reflects the Supreme Court’s continued push towards judicial digitisation, aiming to create a more efficient, transparent, and accessible justice system for all.

The announcements are part of the Supreme Court’s broader push to integrate artificial intelligence through a cautious and well-planned framework.

In December 2025, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant restructured the Supreme Court’s Artificial Intelligence Committee, naming Justice PS Narasimha as its chair. The panel was tasked with providing guidance on the deployment of AI tools across the Supreme Court and subordinate courts, with a focus on case management, scheduling, documentation, and enhancing accessibility and transparency.
